MEET EMILY CUMMINGS

Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Emily has been exploring movement ever since she first learned to walk. She trained rigorously to be a professional ballerina, dancing with both The San Francisco Ballet, and The Joffrey Ballet before the age of 18. She gave up her career in dance due to exhaustion and chronic injury.

Yoga came into her life at a time when she needed it the most. It helped her to heal not only the physical trauma from years of dance, but also through the magic of her practice, she began to heal emotional wounds and develop a much deeper and healthier relationship with herself. Emily received her RYT 200 from Yoga Dicha in Tulum Mexico under the Direction of Richelle Morgan and the Aligned Flow Method. She received her CPT 500 under the direction of Justine Malick and The Lab Pilates. Emily Has spent the last two years working for and studying with Master Pilates instructor Maria Leone and has completed the Bodyline Method certification. Emily is also an intuitive channel, and is certified in Level 1 Archangel Metatron Color Healing under the guidance of master teacher Amanda Ellis.

She currently teaches group Pilates Reformer and Yoga classes at Boheme Yoga LA and Bodyline Pilates, as well as works one on one with clients.

In addition to teaching yoga Emily is an Artist, and Creative Director and especially loves any opportunity to combine her passions both in front of and behind the camera. She has developed content for brands like Mara The Label, and Set & Flow Yoga. Check it out here.

WHAT IS BODY LANGUAGE?

After several years spent developing her own unique teaching style, the idea for Body Language emerged. The practice is influenced heavily by Emily’s years of training as a dancer, and is based around the idea that our bodies each have an individual story to tell, and so much to teach us about ourselves if we are willing to listen. Body Language first premiered as a weekly class at Evoke Yoga in Downtown LA. This 75 minute class was challenging and fun and pushed the boundaries of yoga and movement, asking the practitioner to fully embody their experience on their mat.

Over the years the concept of Body Language has continued to evolve. While Emily’s classes have always been set to deep and soulful music that takes the students on a journey - she now loves to incorporate live instruments and sound healing into her teaching -combining her passions for yoga, expressive movement, and music. Body Language has expanded beyond just yoga to include a deep well of knowledge in Pilates, intuitive movement, and sound healing.

Body Language as a brand now features a growing online class library, with various different teachings, tutorials, and full length classes. Our membership option allows access to a growing online community, including unlimited access to the full library of classes and to live-streamed classes, events, and workshops.

Emily has also created her clothing brand BODY available both online and in stores. The brand is designed, sourced, and produced in Los Angeles in small batch limited edition production runs. The idea behind the brand was to create wearable works of art that showcase the beauty and versatility of the human form.
